This project is an interior renovation for Alex James, founder of streetwear brand Pleasures, and Sarah Kim, founder of By Way of Us—two tastemakers with a shared love for curating art. Their home serves as a gallery-like showcase for the pieces they've collected over the years, but the architecture and generic finishes had always felt at odds with their style. Built in 2005 as part of a tract home development, it was an uninspired attempt at desert modernism, lacking the authenticity and character their vision demanded. One short-term rental guest review captured the discord perfectly: "Nice stay, but odd art."
With every detail, the reimagination of the home strikes a seamless dialogue between art, architecture, the desert landscape, and the spirit of its owners.
